This was book 4 drawn from my TBR jar. It has been on my TBR list since March 16, 2013.
It was a quick read, and is really only the first half of the story. The Assassin's Curse ends rather abruptly with our main characters stranded on a magical island.
Over all - I liked it, but didn't love it. It moves quickly, and the setting is unique. I pictured it as sort of North African - desert, seagoing pirates, ninjas. There is blood magic and earth magic and water magic. It's a bit of a mish-mash, but a fun mish-mash.
I love the cover. The second book has an equally wonderful cover!
I will read the second one in the duology, but not right away. I've also heard really good things about Clarke's "other" book, The Mad Scientist's Daughter.
Which appears to be about android love.
