I forgot how fucking brilliant this book is - to add a 15-year-old, fiercely intellectual,, orphaned, American bluestocking as a foil to a retired Sherlock Holmes was inspired. Everything about this book is wonderful. Mary Russell is a terrific character, Holmes is . . . convincing and three-dimensional.
